"No-Man's-Land, 1999-2001, interrogates one of the most photographed places in Holland, which has come to form a part of the national imagination. Madurodam, the country in miniature that the Netherlands constructed as a turist attraction, appears in the works of Ni not only as a compressed reproduction of different national landmarks, but also as the negotiation between national enterprises and their representation in this condensed history beside the architecture that has been selected as characteristic of the country. Entering the bare construction of the national imagination and the way it is constructed, Ni shows how political and economic power have determined the representation of a country and a community."

excerpts from Sebastian Lopez's essay Ni Haifeng, Techniques of the Visible, P.238, Shanghai Fine Art Publishers 2004
